What's here: portfolio-advisor

A blunt, US-focused portfolio analysis tool. Give it your brokerage, 401(k), or IRA statements (PDF, CSV, screenshot, or pasted text) and it writes a dated, numbers-first review covering four things:

Allocation & rebalancing: drift from your target, cash drag, expense ratios, fund overlap. Retirement trajectory: on track, behind, or ahead, plus withdrawal order and Social Security timing. Tax optimization: tax-loss harvesting, wash sales, asset location, Roth conversion windows. Risk & concentration: oversized positions and sectors, employer stock, and a −30% stress test.

It remembers you between sessions through plain markdown files in your own folder, and every review grades the previous review's recommendations. Tax brackets, contribution limits, and Medicare IRMAA tiers come from the current year's IRS, SSA, and CMS figures, not the model's memory: each review refreshes them when they're stale, and it says which tax year and source it used. It never logs in to your accounts; it only reads what you give it. Full details are in the portfolio-advisor README.

Install in Claude Desktop

Use it in Cowork with a folder connected (or in Desktop's Code tab), so it can keep your profile, ledger, and reviews between sessions. In a regular chat it can analyze what you attach, but it can't remember anything from one chat to the next.

Plugin (recommended, includes the account-number hook): go to Customize → Plugins → Add → Add marketplace, enter dretech-ai/dretech-agents, then install portfolio-advisor from Discover. The hook runs in Cowork and the Code tab, not in chat.

Skill only: turn on Settings → Capabilities → Code execution and file creation. Download portfolio-advisor.skill (or the identical .zip), then go to Customize → Skills → + Add and upload it.

Then make a private folder for your finances (for example finances in your home folder), connect it, and say “set up my portfolio advisor”. Drop statements into its inbox/ folder and say “review my portfolio”.

03

Install in the ChatGPT / Codex desktop app

Open Codex (in the ChatGPT desktop app, or the Codex app) and go to Plugins. Click Add → Add marketplace, enter dretech-ai/dretech-agents, then find Portfolio Advisor and click + to install it.

Start a new chat in your private finances folder so it can keep its files between sessions, and say “set up my portfolio advisor”. Codex asks you to review and trust the plugin's account-number hook before it runs; trust it, or the hook is skipped. The hook works in the Codex desktop app and CLI, not in ChatGPT on the web, and needs bash and perl.

04

Or use a terminal: Claude Code or Codex CLI

The plugin includes the skill and the account-number hook; in Claude Code it also adds the /init-portfolio, /review, and /update-tax-data commands. In Claude Code, run:

/plugin marketplace add dretech-ai/dretech-agents
/plugin install portfolio-advisor@dretech-ai

In Codex CLI (the desktop app shares this install), run this, then /hooks inside codex once to trust the hook:

codex plugin marketplace add dretech-ai/dretech-agents
codex plugin add portfolio-advisor@dretech-ai

Then make a private folder for your finances and start there. On macOS or Linux:

mkdir ~/finances && cd ~/finances && claude    # or: codex

On Windows (PowerShell):

mkdir "$HOME\finances"; cd "$HOME\finances"; claude

In Claude Code, run /init-portfolio to set up and interview you, then /review after dropping statements in inbox/. /update-tax-data refreshes the tax figures on demand. In Codex, ask in plain words (“update my tax figures”). To get new versions: /plugin marketplace update dretech-ai (Claude Code) or codex plugin marketplace upgrade dretech-ai (Codex).

On Windows, install Git for Windows first. Claude Code runs the account-number hook in Git Bash; without it, the hook can't run.

Just the skill (no commands or hook): copy the skills/portfolio-advisor folder from the latest release into ~/.claude/skills/ for Claude Code, or ~/.agents/skills/ for Codex. With git:

git clone https://github.com/dretech-ai/dretech-agents.git
cp -r dretech-agents/skills/portfolio-advisor ~/.claude/skills/

On Windows (PowerShell):

git clone https://github.com/dretech-ai/dretech-agents.git
New-Item -ItemType Directory -Force "$HOME\.claude\skills" | Out-Null
Copy-Item -Recurse dretech-agents\skills\portfolio-advisor "$HOME\.claude\skills\"

05

No GitHub account needed

The code lives on GitHub, but the repository is public. Every step on this page works without signing in or creating an account, including the plugin install, the zip download, and git clone.

06

Where your data goes

Your files stay local. The profile, ledger, reviews, and archived statements are plain files in your folder, and nothing syncs anywhere. What the AI reads goes to its provider: to analyze a statement, its contents are sent to Anthropic (Claude) or OpenAI (ChatGPT/Codex) under your account's data terms there, like anything else you share in that app. Tax-figure lookups are generic: when it refreshes tax figures, it searches public government pages using only the year and the figure name, never your income, balances, age, or account details.

Keep the folder private. archive/ holds your original statements unredacted, account numbers included; the advisor only keeps account numbers out of the files it writes. Don't put the folder in a public repo, and think twice about synced drives. On Windows, Desktop and Documents are often synced to OneDrive by default; $HOME\finances usually isn't. The account-number hook makes no network calls, and it's short enough to read yourself.

Not financial advice

portfolio-advisor is an educational analysis tool. It is not a registered investment adviser, fiduciary, broker-dealer, or tax professional, and nothing it produces is personalized investment, tax, or legal advice. It can be wrong, including about tax rules that change every year. Verify anything consequential, like large trades, Roth conversions, or retirement dates, before acting. Provided as is, without warranty.
